What Drives Interior Painting Cost In Vancouver

Interior painting quotes vary widely for the same house, and the reason is rarely the paint. Wall condition, ceiling height, trim detail, how far the colour is moving and how many coats that takes are what set the number in Vancouver.

Services We Offer

Where Your Money Actually Goes

Cost tracks wall area more than room count. A large open living space can carry less surface than three small bedrooms full of corners and cut lines.

Room count and size

Anything above standard height means ladders, planks or scaffold instead of a step stool. Stairwells are the worst case, since the setup changes for nearly every cut.

Ceiling height

Nail pops, drywall dents, old patches and previous roller texture all need filling and sanding first. Prep on a tired wall can take longer than the painting does.

Trim is slow work measured in linear feet, not square feet. Panelled doors, casing, baseboard and crown each get brushed by hand, and both faces of a door count.

Repainting a similar shade often covers in two coats. Going dark to light, or over a strong red or navy, adds a tinted primer and sometimes a third coat.

Condo work carries elevator bookings, protected common corridors and set working hours. Occupied homes need furniture moved and masking rebuilt daily, which stretches the schedule.

How We Work

How We Build A Quote

1

Free Estimate

The free estimate is where cost gets defined, so it is worth talking through ceiling height, sheen changes, colour direction and any drywall or wood repair that has to happen before paint.

2

Prep & Protect

You get a clear written quote setting out the scope, with no obligation attached. If the number is higher than expected, the scope is the lever, so ask what can come out.

3

Paint To A High Standard

Before any colour goes on, we mask, wash, sand, fill and prime. Patched drywall gets spot primed so the repair does not flash through the finish coat as a dull patch.

4

Final Walkthrough

Ceilings first, then walls, then trim and doors last, so drips fall onto unfinished surfaces. Tape comes off while the coating is still ready to release cleanly, then the room goes back together.

Good Questions

Interior Painting Cost Questions

How much does interior painting cost in Vancouver?

Most full interior projects we quote land between $6,000 and $20,000. Where a job sits in that range comes down to how many rooms are involved, ceiling height, the condition of the walls before we start, how much trim and door detail there is, and whether a colour change needs an extra coat to cover properly. Smaller scopes, a single room or a feature wall, are quoted on their own rather than against that range. The only way to know your number is an on-site look.

Does painting ceilings cost more than walls?

Per square foot, usually yes. Ceilings are worked overhead off ladders or planks, and they show every roller lap under daylight, so the coat has to go on wet edge to wet edge. Textured or stippled ceilings hold more paint and take longer to load evenly. Many people skip ceilings to save money, but a fresh wall colour makes a yellowed ceiling obvious.

Is it cheaper to paint the whole house at once or one room at a time?

All at once is normally cheaper per room. Setup, masking, ladder work and cleanup happen once instead of repeatedly, and leftover product from one room carries into the next. Room by room also means the crew returns to a lived in space each time, remasking floors and moving furniture again. The trade off is more disruption in a single stretch.

Does painting over a dark colour cost extra?

Often. Deep reds, navies and charcoals are hard to hide under a light topcoat, so the fix is a grey or tinted primer first, then finish coats. Without it you can roll three or four coats and still see shadowing in raking light. The old colour also grins through thin cut lines at corners and edges, so cutting takes a second pass.

Should I supply my own paint to save money?

You can, but it rarely saves what people expect and it shifts responsibility. If the sheen is wrong for a bathroom, or the product is a builder grade flat that burnishes when wiped, the repaint is on you. Product choice also affects coat count, since a higher hiding paint can cover in two where a thin one needs three. Dulux, Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore lines are what we work with.

Steve and Josh did an amazing job painting my condo. The previous paint job was poorly done, so their extra effort meant a lot to me. They were excellent communicators, and they treated my dog exceptionally well.
