Lower Mainland's Trusted Painters

Interior Painting Across Metro Vancouver

Interior painting is mostly preparation. The paint is the last hour of a job that started with filling nail pops, sanding old brush lines flat and priming the patches so they do not flash. Primal Painting works that order on walls, ceilings, trim and doors across Metro Vancouver.

Services We Offer

Interior Work We Take On

Nail pops get set and filled, dents and screw holes taken back flush. Compound is sanded to feather edges so patches disappear under a low sheen wall.

Interior painting, a light blue room with white doors

Filling and sanding

Ceiling lines, corners and casing edges are brushed by hand before rolling, then the roller is carried close so the brushed band does not stand out in texture.

Cutting in

Kitchens, bathrooms and hallways get an eggshell or satin that wipes clean. Bedrooms and ceilings stay flatter, because flat finishes hide drywall imperfection that gloss puts on display.

Deck staining in progress

Sheen by room

Going from a deep or saturated colour to a light one is a priming job, not a third coat. A tinted primer blocks the old colour in one pass.

Colour changes

Ceilings are rolled to a single wet edge so lap lines do not dry in. Trim and doors take a harder satin or semi gloss enamel that survives cleaning.

Furniture pulled clear of the walls and covered, floors protected, and sanding dust contained, because drywall dust travels through a house long after the room is done.

Why Homeowners Choose Primal

Why Homeowners Book Us For Interiors

Interior work is judged up close, in daylight, from a couch. That is why Primal Painting spends the first part of a job filling, sanding and priming rather than coating, and works from Dulux, Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore paints.

We show up when we say we will, protect your space, clean up after ourselves, and don't leave until the finish meets a standard we're proud to put our name on.

How We Work

How An Interior Job Runs

1

Free Estimate

We walk each room, confirm colours and sheens, note the surfaces that need filling or repair, then put the scope and price in a written quote with no obligation.

2

Prep & Protect

Rooms get prepped before any coating: furniture pulled clear and covered, floors protected, then walls washed where needed, filled, sanded flush and spot primed so patches do not flash under the finish.

3

Paint To A High Standard

We generally work ceilings first, then walls, then trim and doors, so drips and splatter land on surfaces still to be coated. Each stage is cut in by brush and rolled to a wet edge.

4

Final Walkthrough

Second coats go on once the first has dried enough to recoat. Tape comes off, edges and cut lines get a last check in good light, and the room is reset.

Good Questions

Interior Painting Questions

How many coats does interior paint actually need?

Two finish coats over a properly primed surface is the normal answer, and it is not padding. One coat looks acceptable when wet and patchy once it dries and the sheen levels out. Where you can skip a coat is a same colour refresh on sound paint. Where you cannot is any colour change, any new drywall or any wall with filled repairs.

Can you paint a light colour over a dark wall?

Yes, but do it with primer rather than extra finish coats. A grey or tinted primer knocks the old colour back in one pass, and the two finish coats on top then read evenly. Deep reds and blues are the hardest to cover, because those pigments have poor hide. Without primer you are relying on extra finish coats to bury the colour, which costs more paint than it saves.

What sheen should I use in each room?

Flat or matte on ceilings and any wall with visible drywall seams, because low sheen scatters light instead of raking across imperfection. Eggshell on most living areas and bedrooms, satin in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and kids rooms where walls get wiped. Trim and doors in satin or semi gloss, since the harder film takes handling. Higher sheen cleans better and hides less.

What drives the cost of an interior painting job?

Prep, not paint. A repaint of sound walls in the same colour is mostly labour hours on cutting in. Costs climb with the number of filled and sanded repairs, ceiling height and scaffolding, the amount of trim and door faces, whether a colour change forces a priming coat, and how much furniture has to be moved and protected.

Do I need to move out or empty the room?

No. Furniture gets moved to the centre of the room and covered, which leaves working space around the walls. Empty small items, wall hangings and anything fragile yourself, and clear closet fronts if the doors are being coated. Modern low odour interior paints let you use a room the same evening, though paint keeps hardening for days after that, so hold off on wiping walls or rehanging heavy items, and trim enamel takes longer than wall paint to harden.

Steve and Josh did an amazing job painting my condo. The previous paint job was poorly done, so their extra effort meant a lot to me. They were excellent communicators, and they treated my dog exceptionally well.
